A 4.20 show in Santa Barbara, opening for Raekwon, with homeboys already there in town. Sounds like a good idea to me. Family place to crash, so that helps ussave money. The anticipation to do the show is growing. The 101 freeway seemed darker than Iremember. Passing cars, signs and lights all seem like
glowing blurs.
When I arrived, there was a good sized crowd and adrunk guy already talking shit when I tried to sell him a CD. Get on stage, Fade is spinning, so of course it's going to powerful. Time to go, but the sound is going through a time warp. We had problems with the sound the last time we played here. It got so bad that we did Time Traveler acapella. The guy cheering the loudest, was the same cat talking shit outside the venue, funny. Finally the sound came on a little clearer after the blind soundman realized he was using broken equipment. We experienced more problems with the sound throughout our set sometimes
with mic's that would go out, feedback. I tried to be patient, polite, direct, sarcastic, freestyle to the soundman about his lack of comprehension, we made it through. No matter, people paid to get in, and you gotto roll with the punches. We nailed some songs, others got nailed by the soundman.
After the show, I had a little fun knocking down tables, etc. in the VIP area. I had to leave when of the venue's workers tried to school me on engineering. He kept saying,"how many of you are sound engineers?"
That fool was funny. He made me laugh.
