As a true lyricist with a knack for turning a phrase, I-20 adopted the perfect title for his new CD – one that expresses the hunger and frustration of an artist who has merely nibbled at success only to be denied his rightful place at the table. “I actually came up with the title when my producer, Salaam Remi, and I were watching a T.V. show about sharks,” he explains. “When sharks taste blood in the water, they become accustomed to the smell and the taste and they get frenzied. So I used it because, with my first album, I felt like I only got a taste and didn’t really get a chance to express myself the way I wanted to and I really didn’t get a chance to touch as many people as I wanted to.”

9/17/08: Foreign Exchange Drops New Album
Four years after the release of their critically acclaimed debut "Connected," The Foreign Exchange in conjunction with Hard Boiled Records proudly announce their triumphant return with the sophomore set, "Leave It All Behind."
Consisting of singer/songwriter Phonte and producer Nicolay, The Foreign Exchange came together via the online hip-hop community Okayplayer.com in 2002. After collaborating online via instant messenger for over a year, Nicolay (living in his native Holland) and Phonte (a Raleigh, NC resident) completed their debut album before actually having met each other face to face. The album, "Connected," was released in 2004 to stellar reviews, and was praised by legendary DJ's such as Jazzy Jeff, King Britt, and DJ Spinna for its inventive mix of hip-hop, R&B, and electronica.
"Leave It All Behind" finds The Foreign Exchange much closer in geography (Nicolay has since become a resident of Wilmington, NC), but located much further from their hip-hop origins. The duos' second full-length is a dark, multilayered affair that features Phonte showcasing his abilities as an exceptional lead and harmony vocalist, while Nicolay extends his musical palette to include sprinklings of jazz, downtempo, and house. The lush, Darien Brockington-assisted "Take Off the Blues" picks up where "Connected's" sleeper hit "Come Around" left off, while the complex polyrhythm and dreamy synthesizers of "Sweeter Than You" are described by Phonte as "swing jazz for the next century." Marc Mac (of legendary UK production team 4hero), also contributes a string arrangement to the duo's glorious cover of Stevie Wonder's oft-forgotten 1991 gem, "If She Breaks Your Heart."
"We are very excited to partner with Hard Boiled for the release of our second album," says Nicolay of The Foreign Exchange. "As independent artists, Phonte and I feel strongly about maintaining control over our brand, music and image. The team at Hard Boiled has the experience, flexibility and dedication to meet all of our needs and we know that we can depend on them to get our album in the hands of our fans exactly the way that we've envisioned it."
In addition to appearances from immensely talented longtime FE affiliates Darien Brockington and Yahzarah, the album also features guest shots from producer/keyboardist Zo! and rapidly rising star Muhsinah.

( New York , NY ) — On the eve of the release of his new album, We Global, Miami radio personality, label head, and Terror Squad/KOCH Records recording artist DJ Khaled has been nominated for a whopping 5 BET Hip Hop Awards!!! The nominations are for: Best Hip Hop Collabo; DJ of the Year; MVP of the Year, Hustla of the Year and Best Hip Hop Video.
The BET Hip Hop Awards will take place on October 18th, and will air on Thursday, October 23rd.

( September 15, 2008) – New York, NY – KOCH Records is happy to announce the release of Disturbing Tha Peace Presents…I-20: Blood In The Water. The album will hit stores on October 14th, 2008 and features appearances by Ludacris, Playaz Circle, Lil Keke and more.
Based in Decatur, GA, I-20 has one of the deepest and most imposing voices in hip-hop. He met a prestardom Ludacris in 1997, which led to him becoming a member of the multi-platinum rapper’s Disturbing Tha Peace collective. Disturbing Tha Peace released their debut album Golden Grain in late 2002. The album sold over 620,000 units and debuted at #1 on the Billboard Rap Chart. 9/12/08: Trick Trick Set To Release Album On 11/11
( New York , NY ) —KOCH Records announces the release of The Villain, the new album by Detroit rapper Trick Trick, on November 11, 2008. The album features such heavyweights as Eminem, Kid Rock, Ice Cube, Guilty Simpson, Paradime, Diezel, Esham, Guilty Simpson, and Royce Da 5'9".
The lead single from The Villain, “Let It Fly” ft/ Ice Cube is produced by Trick Trick, and showcases his no-nonsense flow and boisterous delivery. A video for “Let It Fly” featuring Ice Cube was recently shot and directed by Ghettonerd. The video will be serviced to networks and online portals shortly.
Trick Trick handled most of the production duties on The Villain himself, while Enimem produced three tracks and Dr. Dre produced one song. The album also includes “Together Forever,” a Run DMC re-make featuring the late Proof, Kid Rock, and Detroit veteran Esham.
Describing The Villain, Trick says, “I wanted to make music that I feel good about, to bring some real music back to the game. Each track is designed for its texture of song, texture of writing. I wanted to do what I felt good about, not chase after the times. Music is Eternal so I might have a song that is rotten as f***, and there’s a point to it. I’m making a statement. If you don’t respect me, this is what I’m forced to do to you.”
The Villain is the follow-up to his debut, The People Vs. Trick Trick which debuted at #1 on the Billboard New Artist Chart. Trick Trick has garnered a huge street following from his smash street single with Eminem “Welcome To Detroit” and since then has been widely regarded as the next big rap act to break out of Detroit.

Dem Franchize Boyz, comprised of Jizzal Man, Parlae, Pimpin and Buddie, is one of the South’s biggest rap groups. Having sold over 800,000 units to date and with smash hit singles under their belts like “Lean Wit, It Rock Wit It,” “Ridin’ Rims,” “White Tee,” and “I Think Dey Like Me,” the group is exploding.

ACM Recording Artist WARCHILD.. let me tell you of a new development
and why...Two nights ago - there was a shooting, a gun went off and a person is
dead, WARCHILD our artists children,
were just removed from their home to presumably put them in protective
custody as the 'gangs' are hunting him down. The innocent and helpless
children were in the care of their loving parents and are now in the
clutches of Lowell social services..
WARCHILD is INNOCENT as proven already by law enforcement BUT the
police are doing an investigation of the crime.
Two rap thugs came busting into his home in Lowell MA where the
children were upstairs sleeping and WARCHILD and his wife Lady J were
watching tv. The thugs began making demands and firing gun shots
everywhere aiming at WARCHILD and trying to climb the stairs to where
the children slept. Our artist WARCHILD or his African birth name Umaru
is 'cracking up' emotionally distraught as is his wife.
They are living in self found'protective custody' - have no money for
representation but I worry that the situation will be worse before it
can get better. Law enforcement are possibly trying to pin something on
him trying to discriminate because of his color..inferring through
postering gestures that hs may not be innocent when I as the
co-president of a major indi having represented many rappers in our
history and being a good judge of charactorI believe him to be.
I personally paid an attorney with my own money to help guide him
through this struggle but won't be able to sustain those fees should
this ugly before it is completely resolved.
Please this is urgent - if you can help get the music out pershaps we
can pay for this situation from any sales of digital downloads, or
interviews, performances radio play, ANYTHING.. PLEASE read his story
again and pass it on to any brothers in the hip hop world with
compassion for a brother who is talented, gifted and in dire need of
support of our community. Anything you can do to help would be greatly
awarded from the good man above!! Apart from the obvious hits his music
is!!
